Text Effect for YouTube Shorts

Vertical match-cut text that works as a Shorts hook, a recurring series intro, or a complete Short on its own.

Hooks, intros and loops

Shorts autoplay and loop, so the first frame and the last frame both matter. Two techniques help:

  • Finish on the word. With this setting on, the last beat holds the focal word alone. When the Short loops back to the busy first frame, the word is already in place, so the loop feels intentional.
  • Use the same template for a series. Copy the shareable link once you’ve designed your look; open it for each new episode and just change the text. Viewers start recognising your intro.

Specs to export

Choose 9:16 at 1080p. For very fast cut rates, 60 fps keeps each cut crisp. The MP4 uses the H.264 codec, which YouTube processes quickly. Shorts can now be up to three minutes long, but a text-effect hook usually works best at three to six seconds before you cut to the main content.

Good fits for Shorts

  • Finance and business: lock the key term or number (“compound”, “40%”) in the Finance style.
  • Gaming: the Gaming style’s neon HUD look with shake transitions.
  • Explainers: Minimal or Documentary for a calmer, more credible tone.

Frequently asked

Does YouTube accept WebM?
Yes, YouTube accepts WebM as well as MP4, so either export will upload. MP4 is still the safest choice if you also post the same file elsewhere.
Can I add a voice-over?
Export with the cut sound off, then record your voice-over in the YouTube Shorts editor or any video app.

Your first match cut takes about thirty seconds.

Free, no account, nothing uploaded. Type a line, lock a word, export.
